Yes. The free UK car check pulls MOT history, mileage, tax status and MOT advisories from official DVLA and DVSA data — no sign-up and no card needed. You only pay if you choose a Full History Check or Service History Check.

The full history check adds outstanding finance, write-off markers (Cat S/N, formerly Cat C/D), a stolen-vehicle check, mileage anomalies and clocking risk, past sale adverts of the exact car, an ex-taxi check, plate and colour changes, the number of previous keepers, and a valuation.

Manufacturer service records from the franchised dealer network, for vehicles from the 2012 model year onward: the date, recorded mileage and work done for each service, cross-checked against the MOT mileage record. It costs £4.99 with a full history check or £9.99 on its own — and you're only charged if we actually find records.

Start with the free MOT and mileage check, then check finance, write-off and stolen-vehicle records before buying from a dealer or private seller. Both mean an insurer wrote the car off. Cat S records structural damage; Cat N records non-structural damage. A category marker does not prove that repairs have been completed or that a car is roadworthy. Check the repair evidence and have the vehicle inspected.

Any UK registration can be entered, and no account or card is needed. What comes back depends on the official records: a car under three years old has no MOT history yet, DVSA publishes test results from 2005, and some older or imported vehicles carry less detail.

The free check uses the DVLA vehicle enquiry service and the DVSA MOT history API. The Full History Check uses UK Vehicle Data (UKVD) and One Auto for vehicle-history records. Manufacturer service records are available through the separate, optional Service History Check.
